Getting to know “New, Emerging, Outstanding” composer Clay Zambo

“NMI was a great friend to me during the ASCAP/Disney presentations of my show Greenbrier Ghost, and without their help Windjammers wouldn’t exist.  It’s been a tremendously supportive relationship.”

Clay Zambo’s collaborators include a guy he met in an elevator (and with whom wrote a show that went into rehearsal 36 hours later, among others); his college roommate (though it took them almost 30 years for their first show to be produced); and Robin Share, with whom he wrote an entire first draft before they met in person.

His musicals, which have been produced in New York, London, and elsewhere, include Greenbrier Ghost, Lost in Staten Island, Shlemiel Crooks, Puss in Boots, and over a dozen musicals for family audiences. Clay and Robin are currently developing Seal with a Kiss for Northern Sky Musicals, which premiered Windjammers in 2013.

Clay lives in the suburbs near NYC and divides his time between writing, teaching, and liturgical music.  He is a member of BMI and the Dramatists Guild, an alumnus of Ohio University’s Honors Tutorial College, a pretty good cook, and a runner.

Robin Share and I are working on Seal with a Kiss, a romantic musical comedy for Northern Sky Musicals.  I’m in early stages of developing my annual youth-theatre musical for the Kaufman Center in NYC (all I know at this point is it will be somehow fashion-related), and hope to get back to work soon on an full-length version of the Icarus legend called They Fly.
