Founder and President, Show Shepherd
Matt Schicker is Founder and President of Show Shepherd, a consulting group that works with writers, independent producers, and non-profit and commercial theaters to strategize the creative and business development of new plays and musicals.
Matt is Director of Red Mountain Theatre Company’s Human Rights New Works Festival (Birmingham, AL), New Works Director for Ogunquit Playhouse (Maine), Line Producer for Rhinebeck Writers Retreat, a member of the board of directors of New York Theatre Barn and the HAIR Tribes Foundation, and a member of National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT).
Matt was Membership Director of National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT) from 2005 to 2008, where he interacted with more than 150 regional and not-for-profit theaters, as well as commercial producers and writers.
Matt was co-producer of the original musical Yank!, which ran Off-Broadway in winter/spring of 2010 at The York Theatre Company (nominated for seven 2010 Drama Desk Awards, two 2010 Outer Critics Circle Awards, and two 2010 Lucille Lortel Awards, and won a 2010 Independent Theatre Bloggers Award for “Outstanding New Off-Broadway Musical”). Matt also produced The Old Globe Theatre’s 2011 workshop of the show (directed by David Cromer), collaborated as a producer on Yank!‘s 2011 workshop with the Roundabout Theatre Company, produced the award-winning 2007 production of Yank! at Brooklyn’s The Gallery Players, and was consulting producer for the 2008 production at Diversionary Theatre in San Diego. He is an Executive Producer of the Original Off-Broadway Cast Album of Yank!, with orchestrations by Jonathan Tunick, available on PS Classics.
As Producer for East of Doheny Productions, Matt collaborated with Goodspeed Musicals on the 2010 production of the new musical Radio Girl with a score by Henry Krieger and Susan Birkenhead, with a book by Daniel Goldfarb (“The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”), which was directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Christopher Gattelli. He worked as a show shepherd for Third Coast Creative on the 2013 Goodspeed and 2015 Theater Under the Stars (TUTS) developmental productions of the new musical LMNOP, which now is licensed by Samuel French. Matt produced nine plays and musicals in 2009-2010 as Producing Artistic Director of Playhouse on the Green (CT), including a developmental production of Sister Robert Anne’s Cabaret Class written and directed by Dan Goggin (Nunsense).
Prior positions include Marketing/Press Director for The Pearl Theatre Company (Off-Broadway) from 2004-2005, Executive Director/President, Vice President, and Producer for The Gallery Players Theater from 2003-2008, and on the staff of The Juilliard School from 1999-2004.
He has been a volunteer Archivist at the National LGBT History Archive since 2016.
