Aedín Moloney and Colum McCann‘s Yes! Reflections of Molly Bloom begins preview performances at Irish Repertory Theatre June 8. The stage adaptation of James Joyce’s Ulysses will officially open June 15 on the W. Scott McLucas Studio Stage, and run through July 17. 

Moloney stars in the solo play as Molly Bloom, delving into the mysteries and affirmations that come with loss and love, as well as the choices available to a woman in early 20th century Dublin. Set in the early hours of June 17, 1904, Molly’s philandering husband returns home and Molly ruminates on the love they once shared through a reflective and unsentimental steam of consciousness.

Since reading Ulysses as a young girl, Moloney has developed her interpretation of Joyce’s Penelope chapter since then through performances of passages. With McCann’s encouragement, Moloney worked on the show’s development beginning with the audio recording “Reflections of Molly Bloom” in 2017. Following in 2019, Yes! Reflections of Molly Bloom made its world premiere at Irish Rep, and was produced for Irish Rep Online during the pandemic.

John Keating directs the production, which features original music by Paddy Moloney, scenic design by Charlie Corcoran, costume design by Leon Dobkowski, lighting design by Michael O’Connor, and sound design by M. Florian Staab. Jeff Davolt is the production stage manager.

The Triad Theater has announced its upcoming show A Toast to Harvey - Celebrating the Life and Career of Harvey Evans at 6 PM June 22. The evening will feature Dancers Over 40 in a tribute to the Broadway veteran, and will be hosted by Lee Roy Reams. 

Making appearances and performing at the event will be Jim Brochu, Anita Gillette, Kurt Peterson, Marianne Tatum, and Penny Worth. Lawrence Leritz will direct the evening.  

Evans starred on Broadway in four Sondheim shows, including in West Side Story, Gypsy, Follies, and Anyone Can Whistle. Additionally, he also appeared in both film adaptations of West Side Story, first as Mouthpiece in 1961 and as a security guard in 2021.  

Evans was first cast as a dancer in the national touring company of Damn Yankees, during which he met Bob Fosse, who then hired him for a number of shows including New Girl in Town and Redhead, on top of the film adaptation of The Pajama Game. Further theatre credits include Hello, Dolly!, Barnum, Sunset Boulevard, The Scarlet Pimpernel, and the 2002 revival of Oklahoma!, among others.

Trans Entertainment Guild’s concert version of The Civility of Albert Cashier, featuring an all-Trans cast and creative team, ends its limited engagement June 5 at Off-Broadway’s Players Theatre. Performances began May 5.

The cast includes Achilles Mulkey, Dee Luu, DeShawn Jenkins, Dexter Warren, Fin Gagnon, Imani Russell, Jace ‘n Ziev, Joshua Dominique (JD), Kristyn Michele, Lily Ali-Oshatz, Mark Mendez Muñoz, Nikomeh Anderson, Parker Wallis, Salem Corwin, and Stevie Jae Davis.

Mika Kauffman directs and choreographs with music direction and music supervision by Nicole D’Angelo, assistant choreography by Stevie Jae Davis, script consultation by Grey F. Jackson, and warm-up coaching by Nikomeh Anderson.

Jay Paul Deratany, Coyote Joe Stevens, and Keaton Wooden’s musical concerns a Trans Civil War soldier, and each performance was followed by talkbacks and panels about Trans issues and liberation.

“There are so many incredible Trans and gender-expansive artists of intersectional identities, backgrounds, and abilities that exist in New York and beyond. We hope this event can create space for celebrating our history, our stories, and uplifting the community at a time when we need it most,” director Kauffman said in an earlier statement. “The community we’re fostering and the work we’re doing in our rehearsal room is the exact mission of TEG—to dismantle oppressive systems and better the working conditions of Trans professionals in entertainment.”

The stage manager is Dexter Warren, the assistant stage manager is Parker Wallis, and the general manager is Abbey Howard.

The evenings benefit Callen-Lorde, the Transgender Legal Defense & Education Fund, The Black Trans Travel Fund, Trans Voices Cabaret, Community Oasis Igniting Liberation, and SAGE.

Oh God, A Show About Abortion writer and comedian Alison Leiby is teaming up with pastry chef Natasha Li Pickowicz (Never Ending Taste, Flora Bar, Café Altro Paradiso) for a one-day-only bake sale to support abortion access. The event occurs June 4 4:30-6:30PM at the Cherry Lane Theatre with all proceeds benefiting Brigid Alliance (a nonprofit that arranges and funds travel and other needs to support individuals nationwide receive access to abortion care).

More than 20 NYC bakeries and chefs are donating their signature treats to the event, including Never Ending Taste, Dame, Claire Saffitz, Camille Becerra, Brutus Bakeshop by Lani Halliday, Don Angie, Yellow Rose, King, Vallery Lomas, Bad Taste by Jen Monroe, Frenchette, Marlow & Sons, Zoe’s Doughies by Zoe Kanan, Sophia Roe, Carla Lalli Music, Claudia Fleming, Gage & Tollner, Ovenly, Morgenstern’s, Judy Kim, Split Eights, Parlor Coffee, Fox Bread Bakery by Daniel Skurnick, Ursula, and the Jewish Food Society.

Bake sale vouchers are on sale at the show’s website for $7 with a limit of 10 vouchers per person. Each voucher is worth one bakery item.

The recently-extended show is directed by Lila Neugebauer and presented by Broad City co-creator and star Ilana Glazer. The show sees Leiby telling the story of a momentous summer that involved a scary visit to the “Fertility” section of a Missouri CVS, two root canals, and, finally, a trip to Planned Parenthood. The solo show officially opened at Cherry Lane Theatre May 5 and is currently set to run through June 30.
