Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton moderated a panel of legendary women on Broadway at this year’s BroadwayCon featuring Broadway veterans LaChanze, Donna MurphyJulie White, and Vanessa Williams. The event is being held July 8–10 at the New Yorker Hotel. Take a look at photos from the July 8 panel below. 

LaChanze earned a 2022 Tony nomination for her performance in Trouble in Mind, as did Julie White for her role in POTUS: Or, Behind Every Great Dumbass are Seven Women Trying to Keep Him Alive. Williams is also currently appearing in POTUS alongside White, and Murphy was last seen on Broadway in 2018 as the title matchmaker in Hello, Dolly!

New musical The Magnificent Seven begins a limited run at Off-Broadway’s Theatre Row July 7. Performances of the show about the 1996 U.S. Women’s Olympic Gymnastics team will run through July 17.

Starring in the production are Tony nominee Caitlin Kinnunen (The Prom), Libby Servais (Wicked), Allison Posner (John Mulaney & the Sack Lunch Bunch), and Amy Linden (The Bridges of Madison County). Joining them in the cast are Sam Heldt, MinJi Kim, Ellen Condon Macy, Evan Maltby, Josslyn Shaw, Raquel Williams, and Emmy nominee Lynne Marie Rosenberg.

The show follows the 1996 U.S. Women’s Olympic Gymnastic Team at the Olympics in Atlanta as they work towards becoming champions, and the competition comes down to Kerri Strug nailing her vault, while injured, in the competition’s group final to make their dreams of winning gold come true. Directed by Nikki DiLoreto (Six), The Magnificent Seven features a book and lyrics by Gordon Leary, and music by Julia Meinwald (Pregnancy Pact).

The production features music direction by Alex Ratner, choreography by Jessica Walker, scenic design by Meredith Ries, lighting design by Shannon Clarke, sound design by Elisabeth Weidner, and costume design by Jennifer Chi.

The 1996 U.S. Women’s Olympic Gymnastics team included Amanda Borden, Amy Chow, Dominique Dawes, Shannon Miller, Dominique Moceanu, Jaycie Phelps, and Kerri Strug, the gymnasts who became known as The Magnificent Seven.

Off-Broadway News Off-Broadway’s Mister Miss America Begins Previews July 6

The world premiere production is written and performed by Neil D’Astolfo.

Mister Miss America

The world premiere of Mister Miss Americawritten and performed by Neil D’Astolfo—begins previews July 6 at the Rattlestick Playwrights Theater, ahead of its July 11 opening night. The show was originally slated to close July 31 but has been extended through August 7.

The show takes place at the 86th Annual Miss Southwestern Virginia Pageant and follows Derek Tyler Taylor (D’Astolfo) who’s ready to claw his way to the top. But victory is hard-won, and Derek has to decide how far he’ll go to earn the crown.

Tony Speciale directs the show, which features scenic design by Se Hyun Oh, costume design by Hunter Kaczorowski, lighting design by Kate McGee, sound design by Sun Hee Kil, and choreography by Christopher Campbell. TaTyana Smith serves as production stage manager, and Sheree V Campbell as assistant stage manager.

D’Astolfo developed Mister Miss America through the AFO Solo Collective. The production by All For On Theater is presented by special arrangement with Rattlestick Playwrights Theater.
