Joshua Harmon‘s comedy Bad Jews begins its previously announced West End return July 14 with performances at the Arts Theatre running through September 25.

Bad Jews follows two cousins: Daphna, a self-proclaimed “real Jew” with an Israeli boyfriend, and Liam, whose girlfriend Melody is not Jewish. Daphna and Liam get into a big fight over who can claim their grandfather’s necklace, launching a comedic exploration into important questions about family, faith, and legacy.

The cast stars Rosie Yadid as Daphna, Charlie Beaven as Jonah, Olivia Le Anderson as Melody, and Ashley Margolis as Liam, all in their West End debuts. Joining them are Danny Becker and Ellie Sager.

Jon Pashley directs this production of Bad Jews, which made its premiere in New York in 2012, and subsequently transferred to the U.K. for a national tour and two sold-out West End runs. The original production’s creative team featured director Michael Longhurst, designer Richard Kent, lighting designer Richard Howell, and sound designer Adrienne Quartly.

The annual cat and dog adoption event returned to Shubert Alley July 9.

Broadway Barks, the theatre community’s annual cat and dog adoption event, returned to Shubert Alley July 9 for its 24th annual adoptathon, the first in-person event for the annual offering since the pandemic. The event was free and open to the public.

Three-time Tony recipient Bernadette Peters, who co-founded the organization with the late Mary Tyler Moore, hosted the event alongside two-time Tony winner Sutton Foster, a longtime supporter of Broadway Barks. 

On hand to help out were numerous Broadway favorites, including Shoshana Bean, Jewelle Blackman, Alex Brightman, Kerry Butler, Bobby Conte, John Dossett, Claybourne Elder, Myles Frost, Jared Goldsmith, Randy Graff, Tamar Greene, Shuler Hensley, Antwayn Hopper, Jayne Houdyshell, Hugh Jackman, James Jackson Jr., Ramin Karimloo, Eddie Korbich, John-Michael Lyles, Jane Lynch, Jefferson Mays, Marie Mullen, Abby Mueller, Donna Murphy, Suzy Nakamura, Randy Rainbow, Christopher Sieber, Jennifer Simard, Talia Suskauer, Jason Veasey, and Julie White.

The event united Broadway luminaries with the ASPCA, leveraging their star power to find loving homes for animals in need from participating NYC-area shelters, including Abandoned Angels Cocker Spaniels Rescue Inc, Adopt A Boxer Rescue, AdvoCat Rescue, The American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA), Animal Care & Control (ACC), Animal Rescue Fund of the Hamptons, Anjellicle Cats Rescue, Bide-a-wee, Bobbi and the Strays, City Critters, Francis’s Friends Inc., Husky House, Linda’s Cat Assistance, Little Shelter, Long Island Bulldog, Metropolitan Maltese Rescue, Mid-Atlantic Great Dane Rescue League Inc, Pet ResQ Inc., SaveKitty Foundation, SPCA of Westchester, Urban Cat League, Yankee Golden Retriever Rescue, and 1 Love 4 Animals.

More than 2,000 cats and dogs have been featured in the annual event, and approximately 85% have found forever homes. Tony winner Laura Benanti has announced the birth of her second child via social media.

Benanti and husband Patrick Brown welcomed their first child, a daughter named Ella Rose, February 14, 2017. Benanti announced the birth of their second child, named Louisa Georgia, via two Instagram photos of Ella holding her healthy baby sister.

“Please welcome to the world Louisa Georgia Benanti-Brown,” says Benanti in the post. “On July 9th at 2:43am we were blessed with the arrival of our second daughter. Like many, the journey towards growing our family has had many challenges. However, our journey has also been marked by the privilege to pursue different paths to grow our family. Specifically, our remarkable surrogate (an angel-on-earth) who carried our precious girl and delivered her into our arms; an other-worldly generosity of spirit, body, and kindness that can never be repaid. Ella and Louisa ? Rainbow babies. Rainbow sisters.”
