RATED BLACK: An American Requiem is a solo show that weaves together original poetry and song to navigate the thoughts, feelings, and issues of a young Black man from Brooklyn living in “post-racial America”, while unarmed Black Men and Women are still being murdered by the police at a heartbreaking pace, as the whole country consumes these daily digital lynchings. This piece removes the mask of the perceived “super predator,” and shares the vulnerability of a young Black man at risk of becoming the next trending hashtag.
